Careers

Our caregivers travel throughout the United Kingdom on a daily basis to offer vulnerable, elderly, and disabled persons living in their own homes vital in-home care support. However, what precisely is the employment position of a care assistant?*

Assisting everyone everywhere.

Every town, village, city, and neighborhood has residents who need care at home. There will always be individuals in communities of all sizes who require dependable, kind care aides at home, regardless of the neighborhood, region, or location. But there will be changes in the conditions around patient care. In towns and cities, caregivers may work in relatively small local regions where they can walk between care visits, but in rural locations, there may be a lot of travel required and they will need their own automobiles.

No matter where you work as a care assistant for City & County, you will always have access to excellent, locally based supervisors who are there to support and help.

What is involved in care work?

Care assistants support individuals with a variety of useful duties, such as personal administrative work, housework, laundry, and shopping. However, the majority of the time, care assistants help clients with their individual care requirements.

Intimate support such as assisting someone with bathing or dressing, using the restroom, or preparing meals is known as personal care. It might also entail managing incontinence or assisting someone with medication.

We’re not afraid to admit it: taking care of oneself may be messy. You’re probably not cut out for care work if you don’t think you can deal with body fluids, nudity, and the mess that goes along with it. But keep in mind that every care assistant had to assist someone with changing a dirty pad or wiping their behind once, and trust us when we say that it’s something you get used to very fast.

Most care assistants who work with the sickest patients eventually have to deal with those who are dying. You can even discover a client has passed away when you get to their house. Although this is at best depressing and at worst horrible as one of our care assistants, we will always make sure that you are equipped to handle a client’s death when it occurs and that you receive the assistance you need to process and move on from the experience.

Customers who are healthy may yet live in unfavorable conditions in their own homes. Even though they might be able to aid people by cleaning their houses, care assistants may find that they have to work in filthy or unclean homes and that some people “just live like that”!

The most rewarding job

Why bring up all of this? It’s important that we acknowledge that providing care is sometimes dirty, distressing, and exhausting. However, it’s also among the most fulfilling careers one can have.

One of the greatest opportunities you have as a care assistant is to make someone who may be alone, depressed, or in pain feel better. You can offer comfort to family caregivers who, despite their best efforts, are unable to spend all of their time with their cherished parents, grandparents, or other family members. You can offer encouragement and hope, or just your companionship, some good vibes, and a cup of tea. You will also be able to sleep well at the end of the day knowing that you have truly made a difference. That is a vocation, not a job.
